Al Jazeera: Taliban captures key Afghan border crossing with Iran

My quick reaction:

Biden's announcement of his decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by August 31 immediately triggered a new Taliban offensive that has resulted in the Islamic insurgency group seizing control of all of Afghanistan’s border with its neighboring countries. The shocking ease with which Taliban forces have overrun the US backed Afghan forces are emboldening US foes in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria where US forces have started to come under routine attacks. Against this backdrop, Iran might feel that by holding out it can squeeze more concessions out of Washington in the new nuclear agreement negotiations. In my view, the risk is growing that we will see a serious escalation of geopolitical tension in the Middle East before the year is over.
