About 6% of Aus workforce was off crook (sick) for some of June - up from normal around 3%. Unfortunately no data on length of illness but both new covid and current influence epidemic affecting far more people than anything before. If this Aus winter is an example, Europe and US can look forward to huge disruption due to covid plus flu next winter. We are seeing severe internal supply chain issues as a result.

Hi Tony, Thank you for sharing the color. This is set to be a tough winter in Europe. They won’t be able to heat their houses and many people will be sick from Covid. I hope they will wake up from their sanction folly

Hard for airline pilots to work from home at the moment - but give it time, some of our bigger mines are moving to dump trucks "driven" from 1500km away and some of the biggest trains in the world currently being driven from 1500km away. Truth be know planes would be safer if piloted by machines anyway.

United cancelled flights from Phoenix to Flagstaff due to lack of staff. Flights were 92% full.

Thanks John for the airline tip! BTW - I have bought quite a bit of Air New Zealand, as their stock become super cheap as a 4-5 year investment, All of the planets seem in alignment - a recent recapitalisation smashing the SP, government supported, new aircraft arriving in two years, pacific thing coming along due to the Solomon Islands. They might have an advantage attracting staff too from China (lockdowns), Hong Kong (escape Xi) via their Air China and Cathay Pacific Alliances!

Don't worry - I certainly didn't see anything you said as advocating for investing in airlines, but I did latch on to the covid pro cyclicality aspect. Tractor drivers certainly getting into NZ - https://www.ruralnewsgroup.co.nz/rural-news/rural-general-news/new-ag-work-nz-initiative-aims-to-fill-worker-shortage

Dave..

I spend about 40 to 60 hours each week pouring over newsletters, podcasts and business news looking for some nuggets of info that is different from, or in concurrence with, the investment narrative of the day.

Unbound has become one of my favorites ...mostly because your thought process is unique and different... you cut through the noise and bring sunlight to complex issues. Some great takes on Ukraine and France today.

BTW...John also made some interesting comments on the airlines as a barometer.

Thank You

Pat P
