No wonder economy wide productivity is falling! Does fed government employment move in line with these numbers or is it more about tax reductions and income transfers? Does the state activity go in the same direction?

Tony, If you look at the second half of the 1960s, the fiscal position worsened but it was still not that big. There is no consensus on why productivity growth started to decline. The war might have played a part but Lyndon Johnson's Great Society (more welfare) is likely to have played a bigger part.
