Hi David, The two countries in the middle east that haven’t really shown their cards and may probably play important roles are Turkey and Qatar. Turkey on one hand is buying S400 missile system from Russia, while on the other hand is supplying drones and arms to Ukraine. It also has a very complex relations with NATO members (especially with Greece). Qatar is the third largest gas producer after Russia and Iran. It has no choice but to maintain good relations with Iran given North Dome/South Pars gas field, which is the largest gas field is jointly owned by Iran and Qatar. At the same time Qatar also has a strong economic link with the US.

We know which side Qatar is on but Turkey needs to pick a side to have a say. It has been busy mending ties with Iran, UAE, Israel and Egypt of late but I am doubtful this will lead very far. Erdogan whose approval rating is near all time low is becoming increasingly irrelevant as Turkey’s neighbors look to the future
Hi David, great insights, thank you. One question: As you are long XOM, are you also bullish about uranium, coal and nat gas? Philipp
